Mount Vernon has a lot of pluses and only a couple negatives in my book. It has a colonial building style and it is literally on the edge of campus. You could walk if you wanted to. It has a grad student population and boasts a quiet neighborhood. We looked at a two bedroom/ 1 and 1/2 bath town house (which is the top two stories of their three story buildings). The buildings were older (I think they were built in the 60s, but it had a charm you can't find at newer places. The price was good at $775, but they didn't have a washer/dryer in the apartment. However, they had a laundry facility on site and were offering signers a $100 laundry card when we looked.
The Pros:
Large porch with access to the ground (the porch was accessible from the apartment next door)
Sliding glass door
kitchen space
downstairs guest bathroom
good amount of storage
ceiling fans in the bedrooms
pool
unique angled ceilings
plenty of windows and light
access to the top story of your apartment from the outside staircase
a doorbell
fantastic location
Pet friendly with a $100 pet fee
The Cons:
The appliances were old
No washer/Dryer in the apartment
only one upstairs bathroom
small kitchen
porch assessable to neighbors or anyone who wanted to come up your back stairs
Overall, Mount Vernon has a good price and only one real con, no washer and dryer. I can see it has potential, but I'm keeping my eyes open for something better.
