Casablanca West

Located at SW 35th Place Gainesville

So Casablanca West is a neighborhood that isn't run by one complex. We ended up calling a number on a "for rent" sign which lead us to AMJ Inc. If you read reviews online, they have a lot of bad things to say about AMJ, and that in itself is counting against them. The agent that was meeting us to give us a "tour" was 20 minutes late and double booked us, so when she finally arrived she left to show another apartment to someone else. When we walked through the apartment, it was filthy. There were eggs in the fridge, and even after I pointed it out she didn't remove them. I wouldn't want to open that fridge a few months from now because there will be no way to get rid of the smell.  When she finally came back, she was able to answer **some** of our questions, but offered no additional information. The price was cheap, with a two bedroom costing $687 a month and a $500 security deposit, but the neighborhood was also shady. Online reviews also claim that the security deposit disappears after you move out, so that's $500 down the drain.

The Cons:
Shady neighborhood
The apartment was dirty, and that counts against the leasing agents
The appliances were old
There was no washer and dryer, though we were promised that it "could be arranged" for free
Inside of apartment dark

The Pros:
Large Utility room
chandelier over dining area
cinderblock walls (keep the apartment cool)
Private back yard (not guaranteed)
lots of storage
Spacious porch with sliding glass door
pet friendly, though we never asked how much
separate down stairs bathroom

This apartment neither impressed or was bad enough to rule it out. Being stuck in a bad situation myself now though, I tend to take reviews seriously. I don't think Casablanca West will be our new home.
